The trip was fabulous from airport greeting in San Jose to drop-off a week later. Our country guide, Luis, was really terrific with detailed descriptions of the destinations en route and in place, as well as entertaining, friendly, and inviting dialogue and comment form all of us throughout. The destinations and the local tours at each location (Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio regions) were terrific with beautiful landscapes, fascinating up-close flora and fauna, and educational content along the way. Highlights would be guided walks in the rainforest near Arenal volcano as well as Monteverde. The most immersive of the local trips would be the mangrove forest boat trip that brought us within feet of crocodiles, boa constrictors, and troops of capuchin monkeys beside us among the mangrove roots and overhead in the canopy. The culinary delights surprised in each location, though the highlight would be the farm-to-table introduction in Fortuna, replete with tasting fresh fruit, cacao beans, and squeezing sugar cane for immediate enjoyment all before dinner.
