Delighted by everything - from our tour guide, Naoko Takahashi, who was excellent (she sets the bar for guide excellence) to our top-rated hotels (very clean and comfortable with excellent amenities and breakfast buffets) the sights and places we were able to see. I have travelled with other tour companies before and have found that Alexander + Roberts was by far the best tour company. Everything on my trip went smoothly from time that I was picked up at the airport in Kyoto to the time I was dropped off at the airport in Tokyo. With such top-notch service and planning, I was able to relax and enjoy my trip. I would highly recommend this travel company to anyone who wants to travel to Japan. In fact, I contacted my travel agent from AAA in Toledo, OH, who helped arrange this tour for me and my husband to let her know that your tour company is excellent and to refer other people to Alexander + Roberts.

Our guide, Noriko Mizusawa, was excellent. She was a fantastic communicator. She educated us thoroughly while being entertaining. Her services are a huge asset to A+R. I also enjoyed the variety of sights visited and experiences. Among my trip highlights were the overnight at a ryokan, the onsen at one of our hotels, the lunch and conversation with a maiko and geisha, and sushi making with a sushi chef. Our transportation connections were flawless, too.

The guide was very informative and provided interesting cultural and historical commentary. Demonstrations at working businesses such as a pottery kiln and sushi restaurant were particularly interesting.

The temples and shrines were beautiful but the experience of Japanese life really made the trip exceptional. Our small group was a lot of fun.

Takayama's Seasonal Festivals

With colorful centuries-old traditions, Takayama’s Spring + Fall Festivals are highlighted by a spectacular parade of giant floats, many of them dating to the 17th century with remarkable, ingeniously-animated moving parts. Go in Spring and delight in the island’s famed Cherry Blossoms or join us in the fall for the brilliant autumn foliage – what the Japanese call Momiji.
