On arrival at the airport or rail station, you’ll be warmly greeted and chauffeured to your choice of hotel in the heart of town. Surrounded by 3 majestic snow-capped volcanoes that soar to nearly 20,000 feet, this Colonial-era town is a delight to explore – And this afternoon, you’ll join your private guide to do just that! Marvel at Arequipa’s finely preserved architecture, most notably its centuries-old white stone buildings that gleam under the southern sun. Focusing on the evocative streets and handsome town squares of the historic district, your tour also includes the 16th-century Santa Catalina Convent, a citadel with narrow cobblestone lanes, charming plazas and fountains.

As you leave Arequipa behind us this morning, you’ll have wonderful views of the mighty peaks that stand guard over the city. Ascending the slopes of Chachani, one of these three towering volcanoes, we’ll make our way into the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, a picturesque high-mountain plateau populated by Vicuñas. Sit down to lunch in the charming town of Chivay and then spend some time browsing in the colorful local market. End your day in the breathtakingly beautiful Colca Valley and check in to the resort of your choice. Meals B+L+D

This vantage point also offers an opportunity to witness the graceful flight of the giant South American condor. In the small towns of Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque, you’ll gain deeper insight into the enduring traditions and timeless pace of life in the region. Then continue to Antahuilque, a vantage point with sweeping views over the ancient agricultural terraces that have been worked for generations by the inhabitants of these far-flung agricultural communities.  After lunch, you’ll explore the ruins of an ancient Andean civilization before returning to Arequipa.
