On arrival at the airport, our VIP Fast Track Welcome Services begin soon after you step off the plane. With our in-the-know staff on hand, you’ll be personally assisted through immigration formalities, baggage claim and customs. Then step into your awaiting chauffeured vehicle and transfer to your choice of hotel: Enjoy a River View Room at the deluxe Anantara Riverside Hotel or delight in the elegance of your Deluxe Room at the luxurious Peninsula Bangkok

Your exploration of this vibrant and endlessly fascinating city begins aboard a traditional long-tail boat. With insight and information from your personal guide, this excursion finds you cruising on the bustling Chao Phraya River, continuing along the city’s more tranquil canals, you’ll even venture into residential districts that seem worlds’ away from the skyscrapers and energy of the city center. Though you haven’t traveled all that far, it’s a glimpse into the timeless ways of life that still exist in this 21st-century city.

Step off to visit the Temple of Dawn and then tour the Royal Grand Palace, with its glittering pavilions, grand ceremonial halls and sacred sites like the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. After lunch at the Supatra River House Restaurant, the balance of the afternoon is free to relax and explore as you wish. This evening, your private guide will take you on a walking culinary tour. As the sun dips toward the horizon, the already-bustling streets of Bangkok’s Chinatown are further energized by the hundreds of food stalls that open every evening – drawing city residents and visitors alike. With our in-the-know guide at your side, you’ll have a chance to sample a delicious variety of Asian delicacies from grilled prawns and roast pork buns to Hong Kong style noodles and Thai favorites like Pad Thai.  Meals B+L

This entire day is free to enjoy as you wish. Take advantage of our hotels’ terrific city-center locations to sightsee, dine and shop at your leisure.  Meals B

You’ll be chauffeured to the airport today for your included flight to Chiang Mai. Revered for its historical heritage, this ancient capital of the Lanna Kingdom flourished in the 14th and 15th centuries and is still revered by the Thai people as the cultural, artistic and spiritual heart of their nation. On arrival, your personal car, driver and guide will be waiting to show you one of the Chiang Mai’s most important sites. Situated on a forested hilltop overlooking the city, the glittering Doi Suthep Temple traces its history to the late 1300’s and remains an outstanding example of Lanna temple architecture and style. Back in the city, your private tour continues with other historic sites including the old city walls and impressive Tha Pae Gate. After sightseeing, your private car and driver will take you to your choice of hotel: The deluxe Anantara Chiang Mai or luxurious Raya Heritage.  Meals B

After breakfast, your private car, driver and guide will be waiting to take you on a full-day excursion deep into the verdant rolling hills of Chiang Rai province. Delight in the scenery of the passing countryside as your engaging guide shares insight into the history and traditions of this northern region. After lunch, you’ll visit Mae Salong, a hilltop community founded by Kuomintang soldiers fleeing Communist rule in 1949. Hailing mostly from southern Chinese provinces like Yunnan, their legacy lives on: Many residents, even of the younger generation, still speak the Chinese dialect of these settlers - and you’re as likely to see a Chinese restaurant as you are a Thai eatery. Enhancing your visit is the town’s spectacular setting amidst rolling hills and lush tea plantations. Before returning to Chiang Mai, you’ll get to know the ways of the Akha tribe as you spend time in their village.  Meals B+L

From Bangkok to the River Kwai

After breakfasts, you’ll be picked up at your hotel for the overland journey into the lushly forested landscapes of Kanchanaburi Province - site of the infamous Bridge over the River Kwai that was immortalized in book and film. Begin your exploration at the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre Museum where exhibits delve into the history of the 90-mile stretch of train track that was built by Allied prisoners during World War II. Visit the Allied Cemetery and see the infamous bridge before transferring by long-tail boat to the Float House River Kwai – where you’ll check in to a spacious and unique floating villa. Take some time to enjoy your private terrace on the river and the extraordinary setting of our evocative resort. Later this afternoon, venture by boat through spectacular river gorges and into the jungle to visit a Mon tribal village. Back at our resort, enjoy dinner and a performance of Mon music and dance before retiring to your floating villa.  Meals B+L+D

Day

Sai Yoke Yai National Park

Lush forests of evergreens, bamboo, teak and other deciduous trees cover the slopes that rise steeply from the banks of the River Kwai. This is the captivating scenery that will surround you on our morning expedition upriver into Sai Yoke Yai National Park. The wildlife here can be elusive and the tropical vegetation is thick and lush – making the wildlife hard to spot. But with good luck and sharp eyes, you might observe some of the Park’s denizens including macaques, large sambar deer, gibbon and even elephants! We’ll cruise all the way to the lovely Sai Yoke Yai Waterfall before returning to shore for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, discover the fascinating rock formations and impressive stalactites and stalagmites of Lawa Cave, and then return to the Float House River Kwai where the rest of your afternoon and evening are at leisure.  Meals B+L+D

Day
1

Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

Departing your hotel after breakfast, this morning’s scenic journey takes you northward through forested mountains and scenic valleys. Stop in the charming mountain town of Wiang Pa Pao, famed for its geothermal hot springs, and then continue to Wat Rong Khun. Often referred to as the White Temple, your tour of this striking and unusual Buddhist temple reveals the creativity and vision of Chalermchai Kositpipat, a Chiang Rai-born artist who has been directing the design and construction of this still-unfinished complex since 1997. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Chiang Rai and check in to the hotel of your choice: The deluxe Legend Hotel or The Reverie by Katathani, our luxury hotel where A+R guests enjoy River View Rooms..  Meals B+D

Day
2

Out + About in Chiang Rai

Complementing the contemporary White Temple that you visited yesterday, today’s sightseeing begins at Rong Suea Ten Temple. Also designed by a local artist and just recently completed after 11 years of construction, this so-called Blue Temple is distinguished by its magnificent azure interior, gilded roof decorations and gleaming white image of Buddha. Next up is Baan Dam, an unusual temple complex designed by Thawan Duchanee, a protégé of Chalermchai Kositpipat – the artist behind the White Temple. In contrast to his mentor’s work, Baan Dam is dark and eerie, with darkly-painted buildings, tiered black roofs, and furnishings and art installations made from the skin, bones and remains of crocodiles, buffalos and other animals.

After lunch, you’ll visit one of Thailand’s most historic temples. Dating back to the late 14th century, Wat Phra Kaew is, according to legend, where the Emerald Buddha (now enshrined in Bangkok) was discovered in 1434. End your sightseeing with a rickshaw ride to visit the colorful local market. Then return to your hotel where your evening is free to dine and relax as you wish.  Meals B+L
